Last DAY of Class!!

I can't believe that everything is coming to an end. Real patient day is over and we are getting ready for finals. I seriously can't believe how much we have learned in one semester!! And I have to admit that I didn't think I was going to make it through, but here I am ready to move on to next semester!!!!!

REAL PATIENT DAY

I was so excited and nervous for this one. Steve was my patient and he was being so good about it. It started out really smooth. I was really worried about charting all of his restorations, but it was not as bad as I thought. Then I found out he has the most perfect mouth ever for xrays!! They were not very hard at all. I was a dummy and gave him floride before I even scaled!! Don't ask me what I was thinking:)

Moch Patient Day

So Tandem was my moch patient and things went really great! I was so nervous to work on her, I think I got to school about an hour early and just sat around anxiously. Overall I feel like I did a really good job. I had a few mishaps with charting, but I am feeling like that will never be perfect, so oh well.

Not so bad at all

Well today we were supposed to pass off three PE's! I thought it was going to be a nightmare considering one of them was air powder polish. But it went really smooth. I was very happy with the sealant I placed and I feel like everything is really coming along.

Most Messy Thing EVER!!

Today we used the air powder polisher and wow, it got everywhere! It really did work well for removing stain but I don't think it would be worth the trouble unless they have a ton of stains. We also did sealants on each other which I have been really excited for. Mine went really well and it was overall a really great day (considering I woke up at 7:15). Sorry if I smelled gals:)

Sit back and relax

YEAH!! Today I get be the patient. It is really nice because I just get to sit back and enjoy the experience. And I really think it will help me be a better operator, because I will pay attention to the things that I like when I am in the chair.

Watch out...this could get messy

First I have to tell everyone how good my lower linguals feel thanks to Brandy! I am so happy to have all that cement off. Today was great but really messy. Julie decided to play a trick on me and push my pedal while my instrument was in my hand:) Well it got all over my glasses and jacket. But it was a great learning experience.

YaY!!

I am feeling really good about my dental hygiene test!! I am also feeling really good about instrumentation. Today we just had a practice day and I feel like my skills are getting sharper and my instruments are getting duller (ha ha) lame joke, but ne ways everything is going great.

Instrumentation

All the instruments looked the same to me when we first started this semester out. But now learning the different shanks and working ends is making sense. It would be nice if they were all the same but now I am understanding the reasoning. It would be hard to use and anterior instrument on the posterior. So I guess the bottom line is... there is a method to all this madness!!

Scaling Today!!

So today we actually started scaling each other. It was so fun, I loved it. And the best part about was that I really got some calculus off of my partners teeth. I don't know why, but I am the type of person that always needs to be doing something productive, and today I really accomplished something. I know my partner can feel the smoothness in her linguals

It's been a while

Wow I have really been slacking on my blogging duties!! Time to play catch up. Today went really good, I passed off my exploring PE (which I was very nervous about). I practiced on Steve last night and accidentally poked him (in a very sensitive area I might add). I felt so bad and it made me feel less confident about it today. But overall it was a great day!!

EXPOSED!!

So today we let it all out (Our Plaque I mean). It was so scary and I am such a dork, and I was so sleepy this morning and I didn't floss!! So needless to say, my PFI was pretty low EEEK!!! Oh well atleast I really got a chance to see how much can build up in just a day. Radiology is starting to get better, so that feels great!

Rainy Days

So I just can't help it that all I want to do on rainy days is snuggle up and watch movies. I know I should be studying or doing homework, but I just don't see that happening. Looks like I am going to have a long Sunday and relaxing Saturday:)

LoVe LoVE LOvE

I just love how everyone in the program is so supportive of each other. We are all struggling a little in some way right now, and I love it that everyone is always willing to help and they do it with a smile. I always feel so much better when I am surrounded with my fellow DH gals.

Well I have the first few tests done and I feels great. I didn't do as well on dental hygiene as I could have but that's ok. I learned a valueable lesson, and that is over-studying can be has harmful as under-studying. Honestly, I have never studied so much for a test, I have always been the kind of person to cram the night before and do fine. I studied my little butt off!!!! So by the time I took my test I was so burnt out that I just lost focus. But I will do better next time:)

Two down and Two to GO!!!

Woo Hoo I got two exams done (even though they were the easier ones)! I felt really good about my anatomy test and I am just really glad to have those done. In clinic we started probing each other which is a ton easier than exploring. I feel like I am still struggling a little bit with positioning and fulcruming, but I know I will get it.

Open WIDE

Practice, practice, practice, and that is all I have to say!! Exploring today was certainly a challenge to say the least. I did learn a ton about rolling my instrument. My poor partner (sorry Brandy)

THREE TESTS NEXT WEEK AAAHHHHH

I thought i was overwhelmed before and it just keeps getting worse and worse. At the beginning I was worred about being prepared for class and being on time (not so much the material we were covering). Now everything is getting harder and more intense PEs are starting to all come together and tests are coming all at once. Not to mention my little boy is becoming a youtube junky, so I have to fight with him to get on the computer (don't worry he is just looking at dinosaurs, I make sure).

Today was SWEET

So today went really good for me. I came early and caught up on some studying. Then in clinic I passed off two PEs so I am all caught up for the day and I am looking forward to tomorrow!

Today was not so fun

Well first off I did pretty well on the first part of my anatomy test, I was so happy about it. Then I didn't do as well as I would have liked to on my dental hygiene quiz (and that's putting it nice). I really need to spend more time at the school because I am having such a hard really studying and understanding the material at home. I mean I read over it and type it up, but I have Tristun tugging at me and begging for attention the entire time. I think its time to set up a routine. Like maybe staying after everyday atleast an hour or two, just to make sure I understand the material we go over in class.

Fun clinic today

Clinic is really starting to be fun. Today we learned about intra oral examinations. Who would have thought, there was really that much detail on the tongue. I mean really, I always kinda thought there was the tongue and taste buds, and that was about the jist of it, but man was I wrong ha ha ha. Well better get to studying for my anatomy test tommorrow.

Getting Excited

This is actually starting to get fun! Don't get me wrong it is hard and stressful but we are now starting in the good stuff. I am way excited for the convention tomorrow and to get a chance to meet with other hygienists!!

Patient positioning in Clinic!!!

Well today was overall really great. I am starting to feel on top of things a little more everyday. I just keep telling myself that hopefully one day this will come second nature to me (oh my goodness I can't wait). But I am really struggling to understand my positioning when treating patients. I am definately going home and practicing on everyone who will allow me.

I hope this gets better

So first week is over and I still feel so lost!! The material is not as hard as thought, but having six different classes to keep track of is killing me. Maybe I have been a slacker so far in my college career, but i have never had this many classes. Oh well, time to suck it up and be a big girl!

So second day of class and I already feel very overloaded!!!
PS... I also feel like I am spending half my day in the copy center lol.
